The first week of June, Ing. Ph. D. Štěpán Papáček visited us to talk about the research he is doing at his university.
First talk entitled From Algal Biotechnology to Inverse Problems of Parameter Estimation and DoE (Design of Experiments) was focused on the traditional topic of biotechnology with microalgae, being studied in South Bohemia since 1960’s. Starting with the necessary background covering the photosynthesis in microalgae and photobioreactors design, some results concerning model parameter estimation and model-based design of experiments (MBDOE) will be shown. Final brief information concerns the modelling of another photosynthetic organisms, namely macroalgae or seaweeds within IMTA (Integrated Multitrophic Aquaculture) systems, being solved in frame of the AQUAEXCEL2020, a Horizon 2020 research infrastructure project (https://aquaexcel2020.eu/).
The second talk, entitled Model of Xenobiotic Metabolizing Enzyme Induction: Its Slow and Fast Time-scales, aims to show some modelling tools in the field of PK/PD modelling (pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic modelling). In order to provide an illustrative example, I took the model of XME (Xenobiotic Metabolizing Enzyme) induction. Again, a parameter identification based on time course of some state variable (CYP3A4 mRNA Induction) is being carried out and the role of slow and fast time-scales is stressed.
