The Instituto de Matemática Multidisciplinar at the Universidad Politecnica de Valencia has sponsored a Conference Series on the Interdisciplinary applications of mathematics to problems of social interest, engineering, biology and medicine. By meeting annually with specialist in Biology, Medicine, Psychology, Sociology and Engineering we search to create a forum where realistic models for real problems could be developed, tested and transferred to scientific and technological areas.
In this Conference we will focus on networks from a broad point of view: social networks and its evolution, networks in epidemilogy as the vehicle for the contagion of infectious diseases, contagion of trends, political ideas, addictive behaviours in Sociology. Nevertheless we are not restricted to Sociology and contributions related to any area of Engineering or Medicine are also welcomed provided that a mathematically motivated model is presented.
The interest in the application of mathematical models to areas of sociology, engineering or biology is now spurring the development of new fields such as: Biomathematics, Sociomathematics,... This crossroad between the world of mathematical models and the real world of applied sciences is synergizing the production of important results that will surely be of interest to researchers and specialist working on practical problems.
The following Special Sessions are programmed:
* Mathematical Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases
* Random Networks
* Mathematical Models in Medicine
* Internal Combustion Engines
* Mathematical Models in Engineering and Numerical Simulation
