Last Friday, September 4, a follow-up meeting on the collaboration agreement signed in 2025 between the National Institute for Mathematical Sciences (NIMS) of South Korea and the Instituto Universitario de Matemática Multidisciplinar (IMM) took place at the IMM Seminar Room. The meeting aimed to strengthen scientific ties between the two institutions and explore new opportunities for international cooperation.
The NIMS delegation was led by its President, Dr. Yun Sung Choi, accompanied by Dr. Jonggul Lee, Director of Research Headquarters; Dr. Kyeongah Nah, Senior Researcher; and Dr. Minsoo Song, Head of the Office of Strategic Policy. Representing the IMM were members of its management team, together with numerous researchers from the institute.
The event began with a welcome coffee, providing an opportunity for participants to strengthen professional relationships and exchange ideas on potential areas of collaboration. Subsequently, the IMM research groups MUNQU, DAMRES, and MEDICINA presented their main research activities and ongoing projects. Likewise, representatives from NIMS introduced the scientific initiatives being carried out in South Korea, opening a dialogue on areas of mutual interest and future collaborative opportunities.
During the meeting, Juan Carlos Cortés, Director of the IMM, highlighted the opportunities offered by international projects promoted by the Spanish State Research Agency in 2026. He emphasized the importance of developing strategies to increase joint participation in future international calls and to consolidate long-term research networks between the two countries.
The session concluded with remarks from Dr. Yun Sung Choi, President of NIMS, who reaffirmed his institution’s commitment to further strengthening relations with the IMM and presented a particularly ambitious proposal: the joint organization of an annual international conference in South Korea, aimed at bringing together researchers from both institutions and fostering scientific exchange in areas of common interest.
This meeting represents another important step in reinforcing cooperation between NIMS and the IMM, consolidating a strategic partnership focused on promoting research excellence, researcher mobility, and the development of high-impact international projects.
