The School of Telecommunications Engineering (ETSIT) at the Polytechnic University of Valencia held its 2nd Research Fair, an initiative designed to introduce students to the many research opportunities offered by the institutes affiliated with the School. The high turnout of students filled the auditorium, reflecting the growing interest in research and scientific training that complements undergraduate and master’s degree programs.
The event was introduced by Elena Pinilla, deputy director of Institutional Communication and University Outreach at ETSIT, who emphasized the importance of raising awareness of the research conducted at the UPV and of encouraging student participation in scientific projects from the earliest stages of their academic training.
During the event, representatives from the IUMPA, IMM, iTEAM, NTC, ITACA, and CVBLAB institutes presented their main lines of research, showcasing the diversity of research fields at the School. These presentations allowed students to gain firsthand insight into the scientific areas where they can collaborate, complete their bachelor’s and master’s theses, or begin their research careers.
Following the institutional presentations, the conference continued with various parallel sessions. In one of them, co-hosted by the University Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics (IUMPA) and the University Institute of Multidisciplinary Mathematics (IMM), specific examples of research conducted with students were presented.
On behalf of IUMPA, Vicent Romero presented various examples of student participation in research projects, highlighting the educational impact of these initiatives. Next, Paula Triguero, a researcher with the IMM’s DAMRES group, outlined the group’s main lines of research focused on the study of nonlinear equations and systems, as well as opportunities for students to participate in their scientific activities.
The event concluded with a poster session and an open discussion between researchers and students. The exchange of questions, ideas, and concerns highlighted the interest sparked by the fair, with many attendees expressing enthusiasm for the educational and research opportunities offered by the various UPV institutes.
Through initiatives like this, we strengthen the ties between teaching and research, enabling students to gain firsthand insight into the scientific work carried out at research institutes and discover new opportunities to actively participate in it.
